 Jim Moore - President & Principal Broker Jim was born & raised in Lexington and grew up just outside of town on his family's dairy & beef cattle farm. His ancestors settled in Rockbridge County before 1750, and his family has lived here continually since then. With his wife Jeri, a real estate agent with his firm, and son Will, a student at W&L, Jim enjoys outdoor recreation, traveling and farming.  Jeffrey C. Wilson - Associate Broker Jeff is originally from Easton, Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland at College Park, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology in 1987. After graduating, Jeff began a successful fourteen-year career as an Industrial Engineer with Whitman Corporation and later Western Publishing Company. In 1999, he and his wife Murphy came to Virginia on a holiday trip. They fell in love with the area and soon after purchased a second home in Bath County. In 2001, after earning real estate licenses in Maryland and Virginia, Jeff began working for Long & Foster Real Estate in Bethesda, Maryland. He was pleased with their professionalism and the training opportunities, but he did not like working in the city. In May 2002, Jeff decided to move south and joined the team at James Wm. Moore Real Estate, Co. as their Bath County sales representative. In 2006, Jeff completed his Broker’s license requirements and he is currently working as an Associate Broker. First Time Buyers >The Perfect House
Home buyers must often deal with deferred maintenance or repairs. For example, you may have found a terrific house and like many competent home buyers, you included a structural inspection contingency in your purchase agreement. What happens when you find out that your "perfect" house needs some work? Do you ask the sellers to pay for the repairs? Before you answer "yes", there are some important considerations.
Some contracts require that all of the home's systems, such as plumbing, heating, electrical and central air conditioning, be in working order. In this case, the sellers may be obligated to repair any problems with these systems. Leaky roofs, damp basements, or other structural problems may not be covered, however. If you ask the sellers to make these types of repairs, you may void the contract by doing so. The sellers might prefer to negotiate the repairs to keep from losing the sale. If there are other buyers waiting in the wings with back-up contracts, you run the risk of losing the home.
